How to run our Python tools
Last updated: 31 Oct 2026
Every Python tool on The Freelancer Kit runs locally on your own computer, in plain Python. Your files stay private and nothing is uploaded. There are two kinds of Python tool here, and they are started in different ways — this guide covers both, plus Chrome extensions at the end.
First, work out which kind you have. The tool's product page and its README say which kind it is. A GUI tool opens a window with buttons. A terminal tool is run from a terminal (command line) and prints its results as text.
GUI tools — double-click to open the window.
- Download the tool and unzip the folder.
- If the folder contains a
requirements.txtfile, install what it lists once: open a terminal inside the unzipped folder and runpip install -r requirements.txt. Tools without that file need nothing extra. - Double-click the
.pyfile to open its friendly window. No coding required — pick your files, click the tool's button, and check the result it shows. - If double-clicking opens the file in a text editor instead of running it, right-click the
.pyfile and choose to open it with Python, or run it from a terminal withpython3followed by the file name.
Terminal tools — run from a terminal (command line).
- Download the tool and unzip the folder.
- Open a terminal (on Windows, Command Prompt or PowerShell) inside the unzipped folder.
- Run the exact command from the tool's README. To see a tool's options first, run
python3followed by the tool's file name and--help. - Read the text the tool prints: it confirms what it did, and it says if anything needs fixing before you run it again.
Chrome extensions. Extensions are not Python tools and are not run this way. They are loaded unpacked in Chrome — see the step-by-step Chrome extension install guide.
Safety note. These tools run locally, your files stay private, and they are plain Python — you can open the .py file in any text editor and read exactly what it does before you run it.
