Free AI Use Disclosure Template for Freelancers

What this is

Who it's for: Freelancers who use AI tools anywhere in their work and want to be upfront about it with clients.

Tell clients clearly how you use AI on their project, before they have to ask, with a disclosure you can send at proposal stage or with a contract.

Free in full — download it and use it on your own freelance work.

This is a template, not legal advice. It does not state the law in any country, does not replace your client's contract or your platform's current terms, and platform terms change, so re-read them before each project.

Questions

What does this template actually give me?

A short client-facing statement, a full client-facing statement, a paste-in contract AI clause, a one-page internal AI-use policy table, proposal-stage wording in three lengths, an Upwork-vs-Fiverr note and a delivery note with answers to questions clients commonly ask.

Is this legal advice?

No. This is a template, not legal advice. The copyright paragraph summarises published United States Copyright Office guidance in general terms only; for work where ownership matters, take advice for that specific deal.

Do I need to disclose AI use at all?

Platform terms and client expectations differ and change, so re-read the current terms before each project. Disclosing upfront avoids a difficult conversation after delivery.

What should I change before sending it?

Fill in every bracket and delete anything that is not true for the job. Never send the template with example wording still in it.

What if part of the template does not fit my work?

Tell us at [email protected] and it will be fixed or replaced.
